The Role:

You will line manage the Country Directors of eight Programmes in East Africa Region (Ethiopia, Kenya, Madagascar, Malawi, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe) to provide them with strong leadership in supporting them to deliver results that align with Marie Stopes International’s (MSI’s) mission and strategic plan. Working closely with the COO you will have significant internal responsibilities such as ensuring compliance with MSI’s internal standards for service delivery and operational excellence and meeting the deliverables and external facing responsibilities including representing MSI in the Region and Globally specially to donors and strategic stakeholders. You will also be responsible to line manage and build High performing   Regional Support Teams additionally  coordinating with MSI’s support departments to ensure Country Programmes have the capacity and ability to deliver services at MSI’s set quality standards and to meet their approved and committed deliverables so they  take a leading role in the delivery of SRH services in the markets they operate in. You will provide regular strategic guidance to Country Directors in yearly Business Planning, quarterly forecasting, monthly, quarterly and annual reviews of their Business plans and operating budgets.

About you

To succeed in this role, you must have:

Skills and Experience:

  • Proven experience in SRH or related heath field of managing a group country programmes within a complex, multi-regional business.
  • Understanding of the issues surrounding provision of reproductive health care services internationally
  • Experience in leading a social business /commercial in delivery of products and services preferably in a developing country.
  • An understanding of major policies/ issues of large bilateral/multilateral donors strong working knowledge of business practices in the related field of SRH and Safe Abortion and Post Abortion Care
  • Experience of formulating and controlling budgets and data analysis to ensure for effective monitoring.
  • Preferably experience in pharmaceuticals or another activity in the private health sector and experience in Procurement and Logistic will be added advantage
  • Proven risk management capability with subject matter of SRH and Safe Abortion and Post Abortion Care and understanding of legal and regulatory requirements
  • Experience of developing and successfully implementing business plans and growth strategies, with a track record of aligning resources with key priorities, keeping management teams focused on critical milestones and consistently achieving results
  • Effective interpersonal skills, and communication skills with the ability to lead, motivate and guide Country Programmes. Proven ability to effectively communicate ideas, proposals, issues and implications at Executive level.
  • Experience managing teams, developing their capacity by building high performing teams
  • Experience of communicating a range of complex issues with the ability to convey an inspiring vision and purpose both within operations and where appropriate across other business functions.
  • An international mind-set, with an understanding of, and empathy for, the development sector, together with an appreciation for cultural differences
  • Driven significant strategic cultural and structural change (processes and technology) within an international multisite organisation
  • A reputation for ‘making things happen’, operating at pace and delivering effectively through others.
  • Experience of working in Security risk Countries and ability to support Country programs to meet duty of Care

Qualifications and Training:

  • Educated to degree level
  • Relevant post-graduate qualification e.g. MBA, MSc, MA (desirable)
  • Project Management Training (desirable)
