The primary responsibility of this role is to further MSI’s Goal: the prevention of unwanted births and its mission of ensuring the individual’s right to : children by choice not chance.

About the Role

The role involves working with other EMAPs to administer medical advice and digitally provide prescriptions for medical abortion, signatures for statutory forms and reviews of medical history. This is not a client-facing role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Establish grounds for abortion under the terms of the Abortion Act 1967.
  • Provide first or second signature as requested and appropriate for HSA1 under the terms of the Abortion Act 1967.
  • Evaluate options available to the client using clinical judgement and supporting policies taking into account contraindications for either surgical or medical treatments in relation to the client’s past medical history.
  • Prescribe abortifacients, prophylactic antibiotics and other drugs available on the MSUK drug formulary.
  • Prescribe contraception by applying UK Medical Eligibility Criteria (MEC) guidelines.
  • Provide medical advice for the MSUK client pathway in abortion provision, to ensure clients can safely progress to the most appropriate treatment option.
  • Complete all documentation clearly and legibly, including but not exclusively:
  • All relevant sections of the client record system;
  • All relevant sections of statutory forms HSA1 and HSA4 in accordance with the Department of Health Guidelines.

About You


  • Sound clinical knowledge and experience in evidence based practice.
  • Post-qualification experience in obstetrics & gynaecology and/or sexual & reproductive healthcare.
  • Abortion care experience.
  • Experience in delivering digital (remotely administered) advice and healthcare

Qualifications and Training

  • Full General Medical Council registration with a licence to practise.
  • DRCOG and/or DFSRH.
  • Pro-choice on abortion
