The Function

MSI has a global internal audit function, providing assurance to the board on its overseas programme delivery and governance.  The team currently comprises four field-based internal auditors and the Group Internal Audit Director based in London. The field based auditors are based in locations where MSI has operations, currently two are in Africa, one in India and the other one in Australia.

 

The Role

The role supports the field based auditors by assisting in the identification and implementation of automation opportunities to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of audit engagements and other required work.  The Senior Data Analytics Auditor has a key role in: 

(1) integrating and managing analytical support within the Audit Department;

(2) partnering with team members on creating beneficial audit analytics; and

(3) reporting the results of data analytics in an accurate and convincing manner to interested stakeholders. This position requires use of software products to efficiently analyze processes involving large volumes of financial and other data. This role requires strong problem solving, analytical, quality control, communication and interpersonal skills.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with the Internal Audit team to analyze needs and recommend solutions to help execute audit activities in the most effective way by evaluating/ analyzing large data files.
  • Perform full-population data retrievals and/or sampling on large data sets and identify/investigate exceptions.
  • Design data analytic queries/tools to support various types of audit activities including Audits, Projects, Continuous Monitoring, Issue Validation, Risk Assessments, and/or Ad-hoc reporting.
  • Develop requirements, design code, test, and analyze results using available tools/infrastructure to provide support on audit activities.
  • Apply analytic techniques to prevent, detect, monitor or investigate potentially improper transactions, events or patterns of behaviour related to misconduct, fraud and non-compliance issues
  • Maintain inventory of queries, scripts, reports, etc. for continuous monitoring and/or future audit use.
  • Proactively identify key data sources and obtain access/feeds/files necessary to perform data analytics for audit testing and continuous monitoring.
  • Manage relationship and communication with key stakeholders, including auditors. Provide technical training to the audit team as needed.
  • Develop innovative re-usable self-service tools that can be leveraged by the auditors.
  • Develop effective working relationships within the department and with MSI personnel and management. Partner with  informatics teams to share ideas and enhance skills across the Internal Audit department. 

Experience (essential/desirable)

  • Demonstrated knowledge with tools utilized to query, transform, and analyse data for audit or fraud investigation purposes. Knowledge of at least one audit analytics software, for example IDEA or ACL
  • Skilled in working with large complex data sets, drawing conclusions, and reporting results. - Essential
  • Experience of other data analytics and presentation applications, for example Excel/Access/VBA, SQL, Arbutus, Business Objects, Tableau, etc. Desirable
  • Experience in advanced data/statistical analysis tools such as Qlik, Spotfire, Alteryx, Attivio, Palantir, SPSS or R. Desirable
  • An understanding of current forensic technology (e.g. Relativity; Brainspace; NUIX; etc..). Desirable
  • Strong internal audit experience; able to demonstrate an understanding of the approaches and objectives of a good internal audit function. Desirable
  • Excellent analytical skills - Essential
  • Superior attention to accuracy and detail, with the ability to work under strict deadline - Essential
  • Time management and problem solving skills with ability to oversee several tasks concurrently in an efficient and effective manner proficiency in creative and successful problem solving. - Desirable
  • Excellent verbal, written communication and interpersonal skills.  Ability to work effectively in a team environment with strong partnering and influencing skills.  – Desirable

 

Qualifications and Training (essential/desirable)

  • Bachelor’s degree / Professional qualification (Data Analytics, Computer Science, MIS) - Essential
  • Four to seven years of related experiences in one or more of the following areas: internal audit, public accounting, data analytics, technology, compliance, and risks/controls.   Essential
  • Certification(s) in these areas is a plus, including CA, CISA, CFE, and CIA. – Desirable
