Description

About Us:

Marie Stopes International (MSI) is a global organisation providing personalised contraception and safe abortion services to women and girls. Our local teams of professionals are passionate about the work they do in communities across 37 countries. The services we provide give a woman the power to choose when she has children so that she’s free to pursue her plans and dreams for herself and her family.

The primary responsibility of this role is to further MSI’s Goal: The prevention of unwanted births and its mission of ensuring an individual’s right to: children by choice, not chance

The Role:

MSI are looking for an Applications Analyst to support, develop and deliver our health systems around the world, as our Global Information Services expand.

The Applications Analyst is responsible for supporting and maintaining existing solutions, implementing improvements & changes, as well as playing a key role in the implementation of major enhancements, with direct interaction with our country programs and end users.

The focus of this Applications Analyst role is on our Management Information Systems (MIS). Marie Stopes has initiated a programme to radically transform MIS used by its clinics, outreach teams, franchisees and support offices around the world.

Leading on support and development of our new “ORION” system (based on the open source “DHIS2” web platform https://www.dhis2.org/) you’ll be involved in the full stack. You’ll need to be able to use a range of modern front and back end technologies including Javascript (vanilla, jQuery, node), Java and Python, as well as being able to work with SQL databases and REST APIs. You’ll be comfortable on the Linux command line, and with source code management tools. If you’ve worked with mobile technologies, even better!

You’ll be working in the MIS Applications team. We’re a small team with a passion for technology, so you’ll also have the opportunity to use and share the technologies you enjoy.

About you

Are you a tech enthusiast with a strong desire to help others? This is a customer focussed role – you’ll be supporting all our country programmes worldwide and will need to communicate clearly and effectively at all levels. These systems are critical to our in-country work so we need you to understand the urgency around ensuring these systems are supported properly, and how our systems can be developed to work in challenging environments. You’ll enjoy working with end users to implement solutions, with an opportunity for international travel. We pride ourselves on not being your usual sit down desk job!

You’ll be someone who enjoys playing around with technology and systems. Whilst you have a computing degree or similar, more importantly you’ll have the enthusiasm and experience of applying technology to real life problems. You’ll be working on a DHIS2 based system, maintaining plug-in apps so you will have good knowledge of Javascript and nodeJS. But you’ll also work across a wider range of systems and technologies. Knowledge of backend technologies, virtual machines, networking, as well as experience working in AGILE and CI/CD environments will also be an advantage.

To succeed in this role, you must have:

  • Applications support, development and implementation experience – you’ll have a working knowledge of Javascript and utilising RESTful APIs (essential)
  • Experience in developing clear and concise documentation to support system implementation (essential)
  • Ability to liaise with personnel at all levels of the organisation (essential)
  • Ability to train end users on process and procedure, as well as client MIS systems (essential)

For more information about the role, please view the job framework on our website.

In addition, you will be pro-choice
