About us

Marie Stopes UK is a reproductive health charity, best known for its abortion services which help 70,000 women a year. Our network of welcoming clinics and local community services, together with a 24 hour confidential helpline, provide high quality, safe, accessible and compassionate advice, care and support for the women and men who need us. 95% of our services are commissioned by the NHS. Our clinic network is growing as part of our strategy to be the charity of choice for the women and men who turn to us for help. Our influence is growing too, as we work to increase public and political understanding of the issues women and men face in making reproductive choices.

We’re proud to be champions for reproductive choice, and we work hard every day to make a reality of women’s rights to decide whether and when to have children.

Right Care

Right Care is a team of administrators that triage all clients who require further support due to health conditions. The Right Care team is undergoing a period of change following the September 2018 launch which has mixed success. 2019 will see the Right Care team undergo restructuring to bring in increased clinical input in the form of specific Right Care nurses and a Right Care Clinical Team Lead (this post). This is an exciting time for Right Care and the successful applicant will be able to develop the team in dynamic ways. The applicant will have ongoing support and training from the senior nursing team.

About the role

You will currently be a registered nurse with experience of working within pre- assessment clinical triage, and ideally have experience of leading a team of Nurses. You will be expected to undertake a senior clinical position as a highly specialised and autonomous practitioner. You will be expected to demonstrate excellent clinical and leadership skills. As Lead Nurse you will manage a team of clinical and non-clinical staff in the pre and post-operative triage of MSI clients. You will mentor and develop the teams ensuring that the highest standards of specialist care are developed and maintained. You will be able to work on your own initiative, contribute to the wider multidisciplinary team and identify service improvements. The successful applicant will be dynamic, show initiative and ensure the needs of our clients are safely and effectively met. You will have the opportunity to innovate and influence how we provide care for men and women across MSI. This position will give you the chance to develop and learn new skills, with excellent training opportunities provided for professional development; there is a strong track record for career progression within the organisation. You will have a detailed knowledge of current developments within UK clinical practice, understand how to measure and report on clinical performance and be aware of what “good clinical practice” looks like. An understanding of Clinical Governance and how to implement it to improve quality is key. A sound understanding of both adult and child safeguarding issues is essential to this role. We are looking for someone with a high level of communication and organisational skills, and ensure excellent standards of care at MSI. You will have the opportunity to maintain clinical knowledge and nursing registration by supporting the clinical team at the Bristol MSI clinic with 2 shifts per month being completed. There will be an expectation of contributing to the One Call management team by offering Clinical management with occasional evening and weekend cover.
