The Function 

Marie Stopes International (MSI) is one of the 20 largest charities in the UK providing family planning & safe abortion services across the globe. MSI operates as a social enterprise, and revenues are divided almost equally between donor funds and revenue from clients that receive our services.

MSI Group Finance is based in MSI’s London Support Office (the Head Office), based in Conway Street, central London. The Group Finance team comprises:

  • The Global Financial Reporting team
  • The Donor Finance team
  • Treasury
  • Financial Planning & Analysis

The Global Financial Reporting team consolidate global financial information and prepare the core group financial reports: the group management accounts, group statutory accounts and the Global Support Office management accounts.

 

The Role 

The role is responsible for supporting the Global Support Office finance team complete all routine management accounting. This includes completing accurate balance sheet accounting, accurate inter-company accounting for transactions with country programmes, and providing business partner support to cost centre managers.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with all central functions of day-to-day management accounting for the MSI Global Support Office
  • Assist in the month-end process required to complete the Global Support Office monthly financial results
  • Prepare and post month-end journals for the Global Support Office
  • Take responsibility for intercompany account statements and invoicing between London and the overseas programmes
  • Contribute to budgeting and forecasting process as and when required for the Global Support Office
  • Learn to business partner Cost Centre managers, including providing support with coding, month-end reporting, forecasting and business planning
  • Prepare the reconciliation of relevant balance sheet accounts
  • Assist in the preparation and distribution of monthly Cost Centre reports
  • Any other tasks as directed by the Global Support Office Finance Manager & Group Financial Controller

Experience (essential/desirable)

  • MS Office experience (essential), to include Excel, Outlook & Word
  • Experience communicating with diverse groups of people (essential)
  • Exposure to Management Accounting and Reporting (essential) preferably in the charity sector (desirable)
  • Experience of accounting packages (essential) preferably SUNsystems and InforQ&A (desirable)
  • Experience in use of Microsoft Office Packages (essential)

Qualifications and Training (essential/desirable)

  • University degree (essential)
  • Degree in accounting or business management OR Part-qualified accountant OR Actively studying a professional accounting qualification (essential)
  • Studying towards a professional qualification e.g. AAT, ACCA, or CIMA (desirable)
  • Equivalent to AAT level 2 already passed (essential)
